Designing sustainable architecture, rooted in nature, crafted for life

“We create sustainable places and spaces that offer the chance to pause, reflect and grow. Places to retreat to, to be sheltered by. Places that nurture the soul and invite connection. Beautiful environments that spark wonder and speak of the people and landscapes they belong to—honouring the past and looking to the future.”

We question everything – our clients’ needs, the site, the design, materials, techniques and collaborators. This curious spirit of enquiry drives us to learn, evolve and push boundaries, ensuring our work remains at the forefront of sustainable and contemporary architecture.
We believe quality design adds value in every sense. It enhances wellbeing, creates beauty, and increases the financial potential of a site. Our skill, knowledge and tenacity help unlock that value, delivering homes that are both emotionally enriching and economically sound.
Even the most constrained site or brief holds the potential for beauty. We embrace limitations as opportunities for creativity, and our reputation for succeeding in complex and challenging contexts is built on this belief. We celebrate the “question” – because it leads to meaningful, lasting design.
At PAD studio, respect is at the heart of everything we do. We honour the uniqueness of each site, its history, and its natural context – designing sustainable architecture that responds sensitively to both people and place.
We are deeply mindful of our environmental responsibility. Sustainability is not an add-on; it’s embedded in our design process from the outset and considered throughout the building’s lifecycle. Our experience in crafting award-winning, low-impact buildings reflects this commitment.
Our designs are rooted in research, narrative and context. Every project is bespoke, shaped by the land it sits on and the lives it serves.
We respect our clients, our collaborators and our team. Everyone plays a vital role in the creative journey, and we believe that respectful collaboration leads to more meaningful, enduring architecture.
At PAD studio, we care deeply about what we do. Good design inspires us, and while our role carries professional responsibility, we believe the process should be creative, collaborative and joyful—for our clients and for us.
We are architectural storytellers. Every project begins with a unique narrative shaped by people and place. We work together as a team of talented designers, supported by a wider network of collaborators. As a female-led studio, we proudly embrace diversity in all its forms and celebrate the individuality of every person involved.
We are tenacious and driven, committed to delivering thoughtful, sustainable architecture that meets the specific needs of each client. Our aim is to make the journey memorable, personal and professional.
For over a decade, we’ve been a sustainability-focused practice, fully engaged with climate and biodiversity challenges. We see these not as obstacles, but as opportunities to innovate. As signatories of Architects Declare, the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge, and members of the Regenerative Index 2025, we are committed to achieving net-zero (or better) whole life carbon for all new and retrofitted buildings by 2030.
Our team brings together a wealth of experience in sustainable architecture, planning, and design. With backgrounds spanning practice, research, finance and teaching, we approach each project with rigour, creativity, and care.
We collaborate closely - both within our studio and with a wider network of consultants, specialists, and craftspeople - to deliver buildings that are as technically robust as they are beautifully resolved.
Designing with care, teaching with passion, and always chasing the horizon.
Read moreI founded PAD studio to create architecture that is rooted in place, crafted with care, and driven by purpose. Originally from the Emerald Isle, I’ve spent over two decades designing homes, arts spaces, and educational buildings – from Lottery-funded cultural projects to bespoke houses in some of the UK’s most sensitive landscapes.
I’m passionate about architectural education and have taught and examined at institutions including the University of Portsmouth, Oxford Brookes, and The Bartlett at UCL. I currently serve as an external examiner at AUB Bournemouth and sit on both the South Downs Review Panel and Design South East, where I regularly review Paragraph 84e and other complex planning applications.
In 2022, I completed the 10,000 Small Businesses programme at Oxford University’s Saïd Business School, and I’m currently researching and writing a thesis titled ‘Traces of Feminine: Female-Led Architectural Practice’.
When I’m not in the studio, you’ll find me walking, sailing (I’ve logged over 30,000 sea miles), swimming, playing tennis, or pottering in the garden. I’m also a committed foodie with a soft spot for dark chocolate and a good glass of red.

Multi-award-winning designer, thinker, mountain biker, and craft beer fan.
Read moreI hold a Master of Architecture from Harvard University and am a registered architect in both the USA and UK. I joined PAD studio in 2022, bringing with me a passion for thoughtful design and a track record of success in national and international competitions. My work has been recognised with RIBA, RIAS, Civic Trust, EAA and Scottish Design Awards, with projects including the Missoni Hotel, Edinburgh St James, and Boroughmuir High School.
I’ve taught architecture at the University of Edinburgh and Dundee University, and I specialise in working within sensitive and historic UNESCO-designated environments. I love narrating the story of a project – whether to clients, planning authorities or the public- and believe that good design should always be clearly and beautifully communicated.
When I’m not designing buildings, drawing them or writing about them, you’ll find me mountain biking, hiking, skiing somewhere in Europe, or enjoying a cheeky craft beer.

Architect, PassivHaus designer, lover of vintage design & vegan treats.

I’ve worked across a range of residential projects along the beautiful Dorset coast – from contemporary extensions and one-off homes to multi-unit housing and flat schemes. My passion for sustainability led me to qualify as a PassivHaus Designer, and I’m now supporting our studio’s Post-Occupancy research to help shape better buildings for the future.
I’m fascinated by phenomenological theory and how people experience space. I also love vintage design, high-energy gym classes, and exploring the Jurassic Coast with my family – ideally with a good vegan treat in hand.

Architect-in-training, model maker, creator of cocktails Zimbabwean style.
Read moreOriginally from Zimbabwe, I joined PAD studio with the words “Never give up, never be beaten” ringing in my ears – and they continue to drive my passion for architecture and beyond. Four Paws, Big Heart, Bigger Personality.
Read moreOtto – Chief Cuddle Officer
Hi, I’m Otto – part-time security detail, full-time snack enthusiast. I take my job very seriously, especially when it comes to scrounging for crisps and greeting delivery drivers (with appropriate suspicion, of course).
My days are spent patrolling the studio, offering moral support, and ensuring everyone takes regular cuddle breaks. I’m a big fan of muddy walks in the forest, chasing mysterious smells, and curling up in the sun for a well-earned nap.
My great-grandfather was a Crufts champion, but I prefer a more “lived-in” look – scruffy chic, with the occasional spruce-up for special occasions. I’m fiercely loyal to Wendy (she’s my person), and I like to think I bring a little extra soul to the studio.

Finance Manager, spreadsheet lover, and forest wanderer (on the flat).
Read moreI’m a consultant from The Etch Group and have been part of PAD studio’s Management Team since 2020, helping to drive and manage our business growth. I’m an experienced Finance Manager with a love of spreadsheets, a good graph, and making the numbers work behind the scenes.
When I’m not crunching data, I’m happiest walking in the forest (as long as it’s not uphill), cooking, and spending time with friends and family. I’m also a regular at vintage fairs – always on the lookout for trinkets, furniture and clothes with a story to tell.
